Making food is much bigger than food
Most people see a product on a shelf. Behind it is a network of people, jobs and communities shaped by how food is grown, made and delivered.
From farms to local communities to kitchens, our impact takes shape through the food we make, the jobs we create and the communities we’re a part of.
It’s reflected in how our food reaches people, how our business supports the economy and how we invest in communities.
Our products are found in approximately 90% of U.S. households, our portfolio includes more than 100 brands and we have operations in over 100 countries.
That reach means we’re part of everyday life, from breakfast and snacks to meals and pet food.
As a global food company, our operations and supply chain generate significant economic activity. In the United States, General Mills contributed more than $19.3 billion in total GDP impact, including $3.6 billion in direct contribution.
Our business supports more than 134,000 jobs in the U.S.: over 16,000 direct jobs and more than 117,000 additional jobs across our supply chain and communities. For every General Mills job created, more than seven additional jobs are added to the U.S. economy.
We also invest heavily in our supply chain, with more than $10.5 billion in U.S. spend, including more than $345 million spent on wheat.
Altogether, this generates more than $5.5 billion in employee income by jobs in our U.S. supply chain and approximately $6.4 billion in total U.S. economic contribution through wages and spending.
